Regina’s Softball Team Gives Back!
Our softball team volunteered as a group in early April at St. Leonard’s Ministries in Chicago. St. Leonard’s Ministries is a home for men and women who are coming out of prison and need help adjusting to everyday life again. The team met at Kendall Barrett’s home to prepare tacos and rice for the men. The team arrived at St. Leonard’s and got a tour of the facility, then served and ate dinner with about 25 of the 150 residents. At first, some girls were timid and hesitant to open up and talk to the men but by the end of the day, there was not a single girl who was not smiling or laughing with a member of St. Leonard’s house. The men were all friendly, the stories were incredible and all of the men were open to sharing their stories and giving the girls advice. Senior Reilly Becker shared, “Personally, I was amazed by the quality of people residing at St. Leonard’s house. It is easy to put all ex-prisoners into a category of ‘bad people’ but after meeting these men it was evident that they are much more like us than we thought.”
