Trish Andrew – Assistant Basketball Coach

Trish Andrew attended Regina Dominican and New Trier High Schools and then attended the University of Michigan. playing basketball on a full scholarship.  Trish has been named to the Illinois High School Basketball Hall of Fame in 2014 and held scoring, rebounding, and blocked shots records at the University of Michigan as well as the Big Ten Conference.  After graduating, she continued to play several seasons of professional basketball in Europe and South America.  After playing overseas, she moved to Ann Arbor and began her elementary teaching and coaching career.  In 2012, Trish returned to Illinois with her family and continued teaching and coaching locally at several levels before coming to Regina.  She enjoys spending whatever free time she has with her family which includes her spouse and four children.

Katie Bak ’04  – Varsity Soccer Coach

Katie Bak is looking forward to her second year as the head soccer coach. A 2004 Alumnae of Regina and member of the Board of Directors, Katie is committed to the continued success of the program and looks forward to winning another Regional Title this year and more. Katie graduated from Saint Louis University and currently works full time for the Archdiocese of Chicago supporting the Renew my Church initiative.

Scott Bohlke – Cross Country Coach

Scott Bohlke has been coaching Cross Country and Track and Field at Regina Dominican for the past ten years. Scott is an avid runner himself having qualified for and run the Boston Marathon twice. He is enthusiastic about all things Regina Dominican! He loves working with the girls and helping them reach and exceed their athletic goals.
Scott and his wife Lori’s two daughters both attended RDHS.  Their daughter, Anna, currently teaches freshman and sophomore math at Regina Dominican. The Bohlkes are active members in the St. Mary of the Woods Parish and Community in Chicago.

Julianna DeWald – Assistant Lacrosse Coach

Julianna DeWald is a current senior at DePaul University and majoring in Health Science. After she completes her undergrad degree, she will be furthering her education at DePaul to receive her Master’s in Nursing. She also works part-time at Athletico Physical Therapy as a Rehab Aide. Julianna is an Alumnae of Carmel Catholic High School, where she was apart of the varsity lacrosse team for three years. She also was a member of the Loras College lacrosse team for one year prior to transferring to DePaul. In addition, she played and coached for Illinois Girls Lacrosse Association. Julianna is excited to be a new member of the Regina Dominican Community!

Joe Fabianski – Assistant Basketball Coach

Joe Fabianski is in his third season as an assistant JV/Varsity basketball coach. Gaining experience as a young man at the Skrinar Center in Highwood fueled his passion for instruction. He had a brief two-season baseball stint on the varsity level at St Ignatius College Prep in the mid-nineties. This was followed by a couple seasons of officiating basketball in the Chicago Catholic League. The opportunity at Regina has been a welcomed one. The challenges have been far outweighed by the joys of the kids’ improvement and work ethic. For him, it is a process vs product focus. He believes the girls have unlimited potential and the lessons learned in athletics are applicable in ways far beyond the court.

He is supported by his wife, Bridget, and his 3 children (John 7, Judy 9, and Terry 11) who are often seen running around and helping out at practice. They reside in the South Edgebrook neighborhood. He is an 18 year veteran of the Chicago Fire Department.

Hailey Frederick ’13 – Lacrosse Coach

Hailey Frederick is looking forward to her first year as the head lacrosse coach. A 2013 Alumnae of Regina and an alumna of the program, Hailey is committed to the continued success of the program and looks forward to a winning record this season. Hailey is a graduate of Loras College where she competed for 4 years at the collegiate level.  Hailey continues to share her joy and pride for Regina Dominican as she teaches Mathematics here at Regina.

Bobby Hughes – Volleyball Coach

Coach Bobby Hughes is currently in his eleventh season as Head Varsity volleyball coach at Regina Dominican High School. He has seen a number of competitive teams come through the program garnering three regional championships in 2008, 2013 and 2015. Coach Bobby is the director of Skyline Volleyball Club and is a certified USA Volleyball CAP II coach. He has coached volleyball club for eighteen seasons as well as ten seasons of high school boys volleyball at IMSA, Notre Dame and Loyola Academy.

Calvin Loyd – Tennis Coach

Calvin Loyd is a longtime Lincolnwood resident who played tennis on the city courts of Chicago.  Calvin has worked as a teaching professional for several Park Districts. He also worked for Frank Sacks Tennis Program and The Midwest Tennis Program.  Calvin is a huge sports fan and is married to Gwendolyn Loyd with two amazing adult children, Jewell and Jarryd. His motto is hard work, be determined and enjoy life.

Elizabeth McCann – Golf Coach

Elizabeth graduated from Regina in 2009.  She was a four year Varsity golfer, GCAC All-Conference player, Captain, MVP, and a sectional qualifier her senior year.  This is Elizabeth’s fifth year as the Varsity golf coach. She graduated from Loyola University Chicago in 2013 with a degree in Sport Management.  She looks forward to another great season!

Bob Newton – Varsity Basketball Coach

Head Coach Bob Newton started coaching grammar school basketball in 1984. He coached at St. Hilary’s 1984-1986 and Queen of All Saints 1987-1990. At Queen of All Saints he worked with his mentor Ed Collins, an IBCA Coaches Hall of Fame inductee, and former DePaul Women’s Basketball Assistant. In 1990 he came to Regina Dominican where he coached Freshmen basketball for two years, JV basketball for two years and ran the program serving as head coach from 94-98. Bob started the women’s basketball program serving as head coach at Northside College Prep upon its opening in 1999. He retired from coaching at Northside in 2006. Bob came back to Regina in 2016 as an interim head coach and continues to head the program currently. Bob’s wife Meaghan is a Regina alum and his daughter is a current sophomore. He has two sons, one a senior at Notre Dame and a seventh grader at Queen of All Saints.

Michelle Orth – Volleyball Coach

Michelle Orth is the head coach of both freshmen volleyball teams at Regina Dominican. She has two years of coaching experience at the middle school level and numerous years of volunteer coaching at the high school level. She played five years of club volleyball as well as four years of volleyball at New Trier High School. She played in the IHSA state tournament capturing 2nd place in her junior year and 3rd place in her senior year. She attended Illinois State University where she earned her Bachelors of Science Degree in Physical Education. She is excited to announce that she will also be teaching physical education and health at Regina Dominican this year!

Doreen Rottman – Swimming Coach

Doreen Rottman has been the Assistant Coach for the Panther Varsity swim team for four years. She coached softball for three years through Niles Park district for 6th, 7th & 8th graders.  Her substantial teaching and coaching experience at St. Juliana Grade School includes serving as Girl Scout Leader for sixteen years, Assistant Cheerleading Coach for four years and President of its Fine Arts Association for two years. She has also assisted the Loyola Varsity Cheer Coach with tryouts and competitions for the past five years. Doreen has more than 20 years’ experience in the Fire and Emergency Medical service field, and is currently employed as a Commander with the Chicago Fire Department. Doreen will complete her Masters degree in public safety management this summer. She is very excited to continue being a part of the RDHS varsity swim program and RD family. She and her husband chaired the 2017 RD Black and White Ball.

Lauren Schmidt – Volleyball Coach

Coach Lauren Schmidt is currently in her fifth season as an Assistant JV/Varsity coach at Regina Dominican High School. She is a Regina Dominican High School alum and previous club volleyball coach for two seasons. In high school, she played for Adversity Volleyball Club and played four seasons as a part of the Regina Dominican Volleyball program. Coach Lauren has a Bachelors Degree in Psychology and a Masters Degree in Social Work from Loyola University. She is in her third year working as a middle school social worker. She enjoys playing beach volleyball in her spare time. She is excited for the upcoming season!

Eliseo Thorrens – JV Basketball Coach and Assistant Soccer Coach

Eliseo Thorrens has been the head coach for our freshmen basketball team since the 2016-17 season. Eliseo is originally from Colombia but was raised on the north side of Chicago. He attended Lane Tech High School and then continued on to the University of Wisconsin. Eliseo has worked in the futures industry since 1986 and is a former member of Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME).  He is married to alumna, Sarah O’Malley Thorrens ’82 and is the father of alumna, Kerry Jane Thorrens ’10. Sarah and Eliseo have lived in Deerfield for the last 24 years and also have a son, Daniel, who is a senior at Elon University in North Carolina. Eliseo has a passion for coaching kids and loves coaching at Regina Dominican. Although new to coaching soccer, he draws upon the similarities of both sports. “Successful basketball players and soccer players have to be good at ball-handling/dribbling and moving without the ball on offense; on defense, it’s all desire and communication on the field/court.”
