North Shore high school graduations celebrated with new traditions in wake of COVID-19 pandemic
When the COVID-19 pandemic shuttered schools across the North Shore in mid-March, high school seniors soon learned that their long-awaited traditional ceremonies would be canceled along with a slate of athletic competitions, band and choir concerts and even the annual spring prom.
But alongside the heartbreak of forfeiting beloved traditions, the creativity and tenacity of students, parents and school officials prevailed, resulting in celebrations ranging from virtual graduations and car parades, to online ceremonies and the curbside delivery of Class of 2020 lawn signs.
Here are a few highlights from the recent 2020 graduation and commencement events from New Trier High School, Loyola Academy, North Shore Country Day School and Regina Dominican High School.
