October 5, 2011
On October 4, three Nike representatives visited Regina to meet with and energize seven cross country members that will be competing in Nike’s Northside/Southside Challenge.
The Nike Northside/Southside Challenge gives high school athletes the unique opportunity to compete in an invitational meet on the race-day course during the Bank of America Chicago Marathon.
Born from Chicago tradition, schools are designated "Northside" or "Southside" and runners will battle it out on the last 2.62 miles of Chicago’s world-renowned marathon course. This IHSA sanctioned race takes both male and female high school runners from their traditional courses to the streets of Chicago. The Northside/Southside Challenge ends at the same official finish line of the marathon.
Those participating in the challenge are Erin Gavin ’13, Kate McDonough ’15, Zoya Khan ’12, Claire Bailey ’13, Heather Bucher ’12, Sara Martinez ’13, and Taylor Martinez ’13.
During Nike’s visit to Regina, the seven participating runners received a custom uniform for race day complete with Nike running shoes. The team is also invited to participate in the Marathon pep rally on Thursday, October 6 from 6:30 pm-8:00 pm.
